The forever mat. Heaviest in the test, but grip improves with use and the surface refuses to break down. Lifetime guarantee.
Pros
- Lifetime guarantee
- Best joint support in the test
- Grip improves over years
Cons
- Heaviest mat in the lineup
- Needs break-in for full grip

Best mat for hot yoga. Polyurethane top layer locks down even when soaked; the rubber underside is forgiving on joints.
Pros
- Best wet grip in test
- Reversible textures
- Light enough to carry
Cons
- PU top layer scuffs
- 5mm is thin for sensitive knees

Best for alignment-focused practice. Etched lines genuinely help; rubber grip is excellent but the mat is thinner than competitors.
Pros
- Alignment lines actually work
- Strong dry and wet grip
- Eco-friendly materials
Cons
- Most expensive of the four
- Only 4.2mm thick

The starter mat. Cheap, lightweight, and 6mm cushion is generous — but grip fails the moment your palms get damp.
Pros
- Cheapest in the test
- Lightest by a wide margin
- Generous 6mm cushion
Cons
- Slips when sweaty
- Visible wear after 30 sessions
3.Grip: Lululemon Wins Wet, Manduka Wins Long-Term
Each mat used for identical 60-minute vinyasa sessions over 4 weeks, rotating order. Grip tested with palms dry and after a hot-yoga simulation (10 spritzes of water). Wet grip: Lululemon 9.5, Liforme 9.3, Manduka 9.0, Gaiam 5.5. After 90 sessions, the Lululemon's PU layer had measurable wear; the Manduka's surface was unchanged.
"The Manduka never moves. After 6 years and daily practice, it looks exactly the same. That's the whole story."
4.Cushion & Joint Support: Manduka's 6mm Density Wins
Thickness alone doesn't determine cushion — density does. The Manduka and Gaiam are both 6mm, but the Manduka's dense closed-cell foam supports knees without bottoming out. The Gaiam compressed visibly under bodyweight in crescent lunge. The Liforme's 4.2mm felt thin during knee-down poses for both testers.
5.Durability: Manduka Outlives Everything
We re-tested a 6-year-old Manduka PRO owned by one tester. Surface unchanged, grip unchanged. The Liforme tester sample from 2 years ago showed minor edge wear; Lululemon at 2 years showed PU peeling. The Gaiam in our test showed visible wear after 30 sessions.
6.Price: Cost Per Year Of Practice
Realistic lifespans from our long-term data: Manduka 10+ years ($14/yr), Liforme 5 years ($30/yr), Lululemon 3 years ($33/yr), Gaiam 1 year ($30/yr). The Manduka is the cheapest mat in this category over any reasonable time horizon.
7.The Winner: Manduka PRO Yoga Mat
After 80+ hours across 10 mats, the Manduka PRO is the clear winner. It's the most expensive mat to buy and the cheapest to own. The Lululemon Reversible is the right pick for sweaty hot yoga; the Liforme for alignment-obsessed practitioners; the Gaiam only if this is your first mat ever and you're unsure you'll keep practicing.
"Every other mat I've owned ended up in the trash within two years. My Manduka is still my Manduka."
